Overview of the year 9 PfA Curriculum
Our curriculum model is set out as follows:
In Year 9, our focus is on facilitating a smooth transition for students from the Primary Years Programme (PYP) style of curriculum delivery to the English standard qualifications for Key Stage 4. Recognizing the pivotal nature of this year, we understand that pupils are beginning to envision their futures beyond school and contemplate the various pathways available to them.
To support this transition, our curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between the familiar PYP framework and the demands of Key Stage 4 qualifications. We employ a holistic approach by integrating the principles of the PYP with the requirements for preparing pupils for adulthood. This ensures they not only acquire subject-specific knowledge but also develop essential skills and attributes necessary for success in their future endeavours. Pupils engage with transdisciplinary themes that mirror those found in the PYP curriculum, albeit with a focus on preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of adulthood. These themes are explored through a range of subjects, each taught by specialist teachers who provide expertise in their respective fields. This interdisciplinary approach continues the work of make connections across different areas of learning and develop a deeper understanding of real-world issues.
Our classroom structure reflects a scaffolded version of a secondary transitioning model. Pupils move between a select number of classrooms, allowing them to become familiar with the layout and expectations of secondary education while still receiving the support and guidance needed during this critical period of adjustment.
By nurturing a supportive and enriching learning environment, we aim to empower students to navigate the complexities of adolescence with confidence and resilience. Our goal is to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and adaptability required to thrive in an ever-changing world, laying a solid foundation for their future academic and personal pursuits.
